Our favourite apple pie recipe
Ingredients for the cake batter
- - 200 g soft butter
- - 200 g sugar
- - 4 eggs
- - 200 g flour
- - 1 tsp baking powder
- - 1 pinch of salt
- - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ingredients for the filling
- - 4 large apples (preferably tart varieties such as Boskoop or Granny Smith)
- - 2 tbsp sugar
- - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- - Juice of half a lemon

To make the cake batter, start by mixing the butter and sugar in a large bowl until creamy. Gradually add four eggs and mix well. Then add the flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix gently until a smooth batter forms.
For the filling, peel, core and cut 4 large apples into thin slices. Marinate these apple slices in a separate bowl with the juice of half a lemon, 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Mix carefully until the apples are well coated. Our insider tip: Leave the apple to marinate in the cinnamon-sugar mixture for at least 1 hour so that the apple slices can soak up the flavour perfectly - the longer the better.
Pour about three quarters of the batter into a well-greased and floured round cake tin with a diameter of about 24 cm and smooth it out. Place a layer of marinated apple slices on top and cover with the remaining dough. Smooth the surface evenly and decorate with the remaining apple slices.
The cake goes into the oven preheated to 180°C and is baked for around 45-50 minutes until it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into it comes out clean. After baking, leave it to cool in the tin for about 15 minutes before carefully removing it from the tin and leaving it to cool completely on a cake rack.

Now your apple pie is ready! Cut it into pieces and serve with a sprinkling of icing sugar, whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Whether as a dessert or for a coffee break, this cake is always a good choice. We hope you like this recipe and enjoy making your own apple pie.
