Japan meets Europe: make your own matcha latte

Are you getting bored of your regular coffee in the morning, but you really need a caffeinated drink to keep you awake? Then we have just the thing for you: matcha latte. The healthy green tea from Japan also contains caffeine as well as many other healthy ingredients such as vitamins and antioxidants. Matcha also promotes mental and physical well-being and is therefore also known as the "drink of immortality". We reveal what is so special about Japanese green tea and show you how you can easily make the popular matcha latte yourself.

Interesting matcha facts

While matcha is an integral part of Japanese tea culture, the tea is also becoming increasingly popular in other parts of the world. And rightly so, because matcha tea has even more to offer besides its unmistakable flavour. Matcha is a true superfood and is very beneficial to health thanks to its numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. But how is matcha actually made? Harvesting the tea is really special: the green tea leaves are shaded for several weeks before harvesting. The fact that the leaves are exposed to little sunlight gives the matcha its intense, unmistakable green colour. When the leaves are ripe for harvesting, they are picked and steamed. This process prevents the leaves from oxidising and losing healthy ingredients.

Recipe

To prepare a matcha latte, you need the following ingredients:

- Matcha tea
- About 200 ml almond milk or soya milk
- Cinnamon
- Milk frother

And this is how it works:

- First boil water for your matcha tea.

- Pour about half a teaspoon of the tea powder into a cup and add about 10 ml of boiling water.

- Stir the matcha tea until all the lumps have dissolved.

- If necessary, you can also add a little more water.

- Important to know: The more water you add, the more watery the matcha latte will be.

- Then heat your milk of choice and froth it up using a milk frother.

- Now pour the hot, frothed milk into the cup with the matcha tea you have already prepared and stir the two together.

- Now add some cinnamon as a topping to your hot drink.

- Et voila - now it's time to enjoy!

We hope you enjoy making it and wish you a healthy and delicious start to the morning! Enjoy your aromatic matcha latte and let yourself be whisked away to faraway Japan, at least in terms of flavour.
