Do it yourself: Carnival doughnuts

If you've already taken a quick look at the calendar, you'll have noticed that carnival is just around the corner. This year, the fifth season cannot be celebrated as extensively as usual, but we know how we can still celebrate it. The keyword is carnival doughnuts.

Today we'll show you how you can easily make these popular doughnuts at home.

Let's go!

You need:

250 millilitres lukewarm milk

2 yolks

1 egg

500 grams wheat flour

50 grams of sugar

40 grams of yeast

20 millilitres rum

6 grams of salt

60 grams soft butter

1 litre oil

250 g finely strained apricot jam

Icing sugar for sprinkling

And this is how it's done:

Mix all the ingredients together to form a soft yeast dough and then leave to rest, covered, for about 30 minutes.

Then divide the dough into 50 gram pieces. Shape the individual pieces into balls of the same size, dust them with flour, cover and leave to rest for a further 10 minutes. Now flatten the balls with a board so that they are only one centimetre high. Leave the dough pieces to rest for a further 20 minutes.

In the meantime, heat the oil in a pan at around 150°C. You can also prepare the apricot jam for filling by heating it slightly in a pan and then pouring it into a piping bag.

Now place the individual pieces of dough upside down in the hot oil and bake for around 3 minutes with the lid on. Then turn the doughnuts over and bake for a further 3 minutes without the lid.

You can now remove the carnival doughnuts from the pan, allow them to drain a little and then fill them with the jam.

Finally, sprinkle the doughnuts with icing sugar and voila - your carnival dessert is ready.

We hope you enjoy trying them out and bon appétit!
