December is known for the Christmas season with its delicious treats, January is a reminder of New Year's resolutions, but what does the last month of winter actually stand for? In Christian terms, February is about Lent, i.e. consciously giving up a certain thing or activity. The church fasting period lasts a total of 40 days and ends at Easter. However, many less devout people also use this time as an opportunity to go without. Therapeutic fasting is often mentioned as part of church fasting. However, these are two fundamentally different things: church fasting is intended to remind us of Jesus and prepare us for Easter. Whereas therapeutic fasting emphasises holistic health.
There are various forms of therapeutic fasting, all of which pursue the goal of improving well-being, but differ in the type of fasting. One of the best-known forms of fasting is Buchinger fasting, in which certain juices, vegetable broths, selected herbal teas and salts are permitted. Another form is the Mayr diet. Here, in addition to herbal teas and water, bread rolls and milk may also be consumed. However, these are just two examples from many forms of fasting.
