Spicy winter punch - looking forward to the festive season

The first day of Advent is fast approaching and with it the anticipation of Christmas - a classic hot winter drink that warms both body and soul is of course a must! With a mug of punch, wrapped up in a thick blanket on the sofa, Christmas is just around the corner. Especially on cold days, there's nothing better than a homemade punch that will put you in the Christmas spirit with its fine flavours and spices!

When thick, white snowflakes fall from the sky and the longing for warmth grows ever greater, the warming delicacies create a Christmas market atmosphere - even in the living room! But what makes punch so popular? Is it the warmth? The flavour? The scent of Christmas? Probably a little bit of everything. There are numerous winter punch recipes - we'll tell you our three favourite recipes to sweeten up the run-up to Christmas!

Our punch recipes

Apple punch (non-alcoholic)
Ingredients

- 1.5 litres of apple juice
- An orange

One lemon
- 20g sultanas
- 20g almonds
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- One cinnamon stick
- Three star anise
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- Three cloves
- Honey

Preparation

Step 1: Squeeze the orange and lemon.
Step 2: Pour the fruit juice and apple juice into a saucepan.
Step 3: Add the sultanas, almonds and spices, cover and heat over a low heat for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Sweeten with honey to taste.
Step 5: Strain the punch and serve warm.

Berry punch
Ingredients

- One litre of red wine
- 500ml water
- 400g berry mix
- 100g sugar
- Six cloves
- Two bags of fruit tea
- One cinnamon stick

Preparation

Step 1: Pour the red wine, water, sugar and spices into a pan, cover and heat over a low heat for 20 minutes.
Step 2: Remove the pan from the heat, insert the fruit tea bag, cover and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove the tea bag, heat the punch, add the berry mix and leave to infuse for three minutes.
Step 4: Remove the spices and serve the punch warm.

Rump punch
Ingredients

- One litre of red wine
- 80g sugar
- 20ml rum
- Six cloves
- Three star anise
- Two cinnamon sticks
- One orange and one lemon

Preparation

Step 1: Pour the red wine, sugar and spices into a pan, cover and heat over a low heat for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Cut the orange and lemon into thin slices and add to the pan.
Step 3: Leave everything to infuse for a further 15 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the spices, add the rum and serve warm with the orange and lemon slices.
