Healthy, healthier, smoothies. The fact that the vitamins contained in fruit and vegetables are healthy is nothing new in itself. But did you know that certain mixtures of vitamins, minerals and secondary plant substances can be real immune boosters for the cold months? Especially during the cold season, it makes sense to take preventative measures and strengthen the body's defences to protect against illness. This is where vitamin smoothies come into play. They help us get through the cold season and provide us with exactly the antibacterial and warming ingredients we need in winter. Here are two of our favourite recipes!
Fancy a vitamin booster? These smoothies strengthen your immune system
The fruity-fresh classic
Vitamin smoothies are real vitamin bombs and contain important phytochemicals thanks to the peel and seeds of apples, pears and the like. You need the following ingredients for two to three portions of our classic vitamin smoothie:
- 2 oranges or grapefruits
- 1 Apple
- 1 carrot
- 1 piece of ginger (approx. 2-3 cm in size)
- 1 lemon
- 200-300 ml liquid (e.g. water or sea buckthorn juice for extra vitamin C)
- Optional: 1-2 tsp liquid sweetener (apple syrup or honey)
- Optional: spices such as turmeric or cardamom

And this is how the vitamin booster is mixed for drinking:
- Clean and wash the fruit and ginger.
- Grate some citrus zest into the blender, squeeze out the juice and add to the blender.
- Roughly chop the ginger, carrot and apple, place in the blender one after the other and puree until smooth.
- Gradually add the liquid until the desired consistency is reached.
- Flavour with sweetness and spices.
The Green Smoothie
When you think of healthy food, green vegetables immediately spring to mind. And rightly so, because green vegetables and herbs contain many healthy nutrients that strengthen our immune system. With the following recipe, you can mix up a healthy green smoothie in no time at all using only local ingredients. You will need the following ingredients for two to three portions:
- 2 pears
- 1 handful of spinach
- 200 ml water or elderberry juice
- 2 tbsp unpeeled hemp seeds
- 2-3 tbsp wild herbs such as chickweed, ground ivy or culinary herbs such as sage or basil

And that's how quickly the green immune booster is ready:
- Wash the pears, spinach and herbs. Remove the stalk and roughly chop the pears.
- Place all the ingredients apart from the elderberry juice in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Gradually add the elderberry juice until the desired drinking consistency is reached.
