Getting together in the morning for Easter brunch, "Eierpecken" and looking for Easter eggs - all of this is typical of our Easter customs. But what does it actually look like in other countries? That's right! Not an Easter bunny, not a chick, but an Easter witch. Unlike Halloween, as you might think at first, Finnish Easter witches are not scary at all. Instead of a big nose and an unfriendly face, they have painted-on freckles and are adorned with colourful feathers and palm kittens. They are supposed to drive the evil spirits out of the house and receive sweets in return. Many Finnish households place a cutely decorated basket of chocolate Easter eggs or coins next to their door to pay the little Easter witches. In general, Finnish Easter customs are a fusion of religious traditions that relate to the long-awaited arrival of spring.

Australia

In this country, the classic Easter bunnies don't fare well: rabbits, which belong to the rabbit family, are now found in such large numbers that other animals, such as bilbies, can hardly find any food. Bilbies are Australian marsupials and look almost like rabbits, which is why they are perfect as Easter animals - as Australians find. For this reason, bilbies are becoming increasingly popular. More and more chocolate Bilbies are finding their way into the trolleys of Australian supermarkets instead of conventional chocolate Easter bunnies. Some of the proceeds also benefit projects that are committed to protecting the bilbies. Eating chocolate and doing charitable work at the same time - it couldn't be better. The Easter brunch is often replaced by a typical Australian Easter barbecue. In general, the Saturday before Easter is often used as an occasion for a family day and for outings with the whole family.

USA

It is well known that the USA likes to celebrate its festivities in a pompous manner and goes one step further. At the White House, the traditional egg rolling takes place on Easter Monday, where the Easter eggs are not searched for and then eaten with relish, but are rolled down a hill in the form of a competition. The hard-boiled eggs are all rolled down at the same time and the child whose egg reaches the bottom first is crowned the winner. This tradition is so popular that even the president takes part. However, the White House doesn't just organise the "egg rolling", but a whole party where there are numerous sports activities and craft activities in addition to the egg rolling.
Easter parades, which take place all over the country, are also particularly popular. Similar to the carnival parades in Germany, colourfully decorated floats and brass bands parade through the streets and are cheered on by spectators at the roadside.
