Day and night, it monitors the body's own defences and fights harmful substances from the environment. Due to the damp weather and cold temperatures, the immune system is particularly challenged in autumn and winter. Although the odd cold cannot be avoided, infections are often less severe with a fit immune defence system.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 40px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"p1\">Bacteria and germs are everywhere around us: on public transport, in the toilet or in the company of others. Many cold viruses, such as the coronavirus, enter the body via the respiratory tract. This poses a risk not only for children, people with immune deficiencies or sick people, but also for older people due to the natural ageing of the immune system. It is advisable to strengthen your immune system throughout the year in order to stay fit through the winter.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 40px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div>        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"container vc_container\" ><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\">\n    <div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n        <div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n            \n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>A balanced diet is crucial for a healthy immune system.  If there is a lack of vitamins or certain minerals, the immune system can no longer perform as well as usual. It is recommended to eat five portions of fruit or vegetables a day to prevent a deficiency. After just a few seconds of physical exertion, the body produces more natural \"killer cells\", which help to regulate the metabolism. However, the key to a lasting immune system boost is regularity. This means getting at least one hour of active exercise a day - including walking or cycling to work. It is therefore not necessary to exhaust yourself. In closed rooms, the density of pathogens is relatively high, which poses an increased risk of infection. For this reason, it is not only advisable to air your home at regular intervals, but also to get out into the fresh air. Sunlight stimulates the production of vitamin D, which is necessary for the body to produce defence cells. Stress promotes the release of cortisol, a steroid hormone that is also known as the \"stress hormone\". Increased secretion of this hormone influences, among other things, the production and distribution of white blood platelets, a central component of the immune system.
